R. Bruce Douglass is Presbyterian layman who serves as an elder
at the Lewinsville Presbyterian Church in McLean, Virginia. A member
of the faculty of the Department of Government of Georgetown University,
he teaches political theory. A graduate of Yale (M.Div.) and Duke Universities
(M.A./Ph.D.), he has also served as the Dean of the Faculty of Georgetown
College. His latest book is a collection of scholarly essays written
by people of different faiths on the role of religion in American public
life (edited with Joshua Mitchell) entitled One Nation under God?
(Rowman & Littlefield 2000). His essays have appeared in various
scholarly journals as well as such popular publications as The Responsive
Community, The Christian Century, Commonweal, and
Christianity and Crisis.
Mary J. Hill is a Christian Educator in the Presbyterian Church
U.S.A., having served two churches in Tennessee and two in National
Capital Presbytery over eighteen years. She received her undergraduate
degree from Rhodes College (formerly Southwestern at Memphis), and graduated
with an M.A. from Union-PSCE (formerly the Presbyterian School of Christian
Education). She has the full range of experience in planning and teaching
with children, youth, especially confirmation, and adults, and is a
member of the Association of Presbyterian Church Educators.
